The 2018 Whitewater Whirl, May 4-6, was a tremendous success! At its zenith--the Saturday night dance with Gaye Fifer calling to The Ripples--we had more than 100 dancers in three contra lines on the floor. Most dancers came from the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest--Virginia, Maryland, DC, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee as well as West Virginia--with a few from Arizona and California who were traveling in the region.
We had great music from The Ripples and The Contrarians, a range of workshops--from waltz to English Country to Kerry Sets--and challenging, creative contras from Gaye and dance choreographer extraordinaire Cary Ravitz.
The kitchen crew, ably supervised by Harriette Bugel, served up superb food.
The Fayette County Park, with its energetic new manager, Renee Harper, has made significant improvements in facilities, particularly bathrooms and outdoor lighting. Our thanks to the FOOTMAD volunteers who helped make the weekend a success.
Bethan Rhiannon, national clog dance champion of Wales, performing with Calan on 7 October 2017 for FOOTMAD's concert series in Charleston, West Virginia.
Last concert of our current season was April 21
Next concert season starts in September 2018.
